The People

The residents of District Bahawalnagar are mainly Muslims by conception and religion. As per the actual estimate, the district has 98 percent of the muslim population. Citizens are straightforward, accommodating, traditional, and modest. They are acutely mindful of their social values and take pride in preserving them. There are existence of some other religions in the district having their own way of life, socialism, festivals, and moral values. 

Professions

Almost 75% of habitants of District Bahwalangar have a background of inherited cultivational profession. However, most of the urban families are engaged with personal businesses or engaged with government and private jobs as well.  

Food

People enjoy eating both traditional as well as continental food. Variety of food ranges from the traditional food of Naan Channa, Paye to spicy, salty along with Chinese and Italian cuisine from 2 Star and 3 Star hotels in Bahawalnagar. People are more attracted to fast foods and junk food from different multinational outlets located in District Bahawalangar. 

Language Speaking

Urdu is the language spoken and understood by all. However, majority of the people, especially those living in the city speak Punjabi. People living in cantonment are not generally the citizens of Bahawalnagar and consist of army officials posted there that belong to different areas of the country. Hence Urdu is the main language spoken and understood by the people living in the cantonment. The educated elite living in Bahawalnagar also understand and speak English.

Lifestyle

The residents of Bahawalnagar, as part of Punjab, are similar to Punjabis in Rajhastan. They have a tall, muscular build and angular features. The locals live in mud and grass huts that are wide and in circular form. The majority of these huts are built on the crests of sandhills. They follow a nomadic lifestyle, traveling from place to place dependent on weather patterns, food, and water supply. Their way of life is similar to that of rural people. 

People of this area have gone abroad to earn their livelihood and most of them are settled in developed countries and the middle east. These people are a big source of foreign remittance and are contributing to the foreign exchange of the country.

Culture

It is a multicultural society. Joya, Watto, Araen, Rajpoot, Syed, Shaikh, Qureshi, Rehmani, and Malik are among the dominant communities. Almost all communities religiously celebrate special occasions such as Urs of Hazrat Khawaja Noor Muhammad Maharvi and Hazrat Essa Khan Baba.

Christians and Hindus are also settled in the region for centuries. They follow their traditional customs and celebrate all of their religious festivities.

Traditional Lassi is a favorite drink in this region and guests are served with it. Local people enjoy eating hot and spicy food. There are many famous food streets in the town. Mutton karahi, fried fish, til-wala naan, chicken roast, and egg-burger are the most famous food items.
